Tales and Stories

The headlines were fairly simple and each side took their usual position of why someone killed someone. In my humble opinion, it was a tragic accident with no evil intentions by Ms. Guyger. I think that there is a hidden culprit not being recognized. That culprit was the cell phone she was glued to and that held her undivided attention. It's worse than a plague on the people of this world, at least those who possess cell phones. It's a daily occurrence that young, old, educated, non-educated, rich, poor, commuting or just sitting on the toilet people give away their attention and presence totally to the device. Look around. People driving cars, people at stoplights, people in elevators, people walking in busy crosswalks. It's everywhere. I do believe that Ms. Guyger has now killed and will serve time for it due to her cell phone removing her from the physical present. I was just thinking that some lives might have been saved in the Midland/Odessa and El Paso, Texas shootings if an "Active Shooter" Alert could have been sent to the local people. Ideas?

Have you ever noticed the Subaru ads and others that track time and memories by showing clips of a family starting with the videos of a puppy, teenage, adult, and then old dog? This theme was used in the movie "A Dog's Purpose" (I think that was the name) and others. I am a dog owner and trainer and this always tugs at my heartstrings especially when I consider myself as the "old dog" next to pass away. I am the last of the old-timers in my family and so am the patriarch. Thoughts?

Whenever there is a "mass shooting" everyone starts talking again about what can be done to reduce or eliminate future instances. Currently one of the topics being discussed is preventing sales to people who are mental. It is a great idea, but where does a gun dealer or owner selling firearms find a database of these people? Looking at some of the people that commit these horrific acts it would be difficult to identify them as "mentally ill" from a medical perspective. I agree that most are deranged evildoers, but how do you find a way to categorize them before the fact and have them on a "Do Not Possess" list? There is also the "due process" issue as well. I read statistics about shootings in the US from time to time and frequently wonder why the public outcry is so loud when someone shoots a group of people like in the El Paso, Texas Walmart versus the much higher recurring numbers of shooting deaths in larger cities, e.g. Chicago or Balt
